CALL FOR SPECIAL ISSUE

Our seas face unprecedented threats as a result of human activities, especially in the last century. As the world population and related human activities increase, the health of our seas and their ability to sustain life are gradually deteriorating. Urgent action is needed to protect our seas from the most defining challenges of our time, such as climate change, overfishing, introduction of invasive species, food insecurity, diseases and epidemics, biodiversity loss, the plastic crisis, economic inequality and even wars.

For the health and sustainability of our seas, addressing threats to the health, ecology, economy and management of our seas (acidification, marine litter and pollution, eutrophication, harmful algal blooms, mucilage, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and loss of habitat/biodiversity) and support the innovative use of technology and marine resources are needed.

The 6th National Marine Sciences Proceedings (6. Ulusal Deniz Bilimleri Konferansı) will be held in Rize, Türkiye on 15-17 May 2022, with the theme "Past, Present and Future of Our Seas", where a wide range of topics such as biological, chemical and physical oceanography, marine geology and geophysics, marine policies and management will be discussed.
